'Costa Concordia' Salvage Operation Begins

Posted: Tue Jun 26 13:55

It is now more than five months since the 'Costa Concordia' tragically capsized off the Tuscan coast, when the vessel struck a rock within a submerged reef, resulting in 32 people losing their lives.

Since then, the vessel has remained in situ on the Tuscan coast, constantly in the eyeshot of holiday makers visiting the surrounding beaches. Photographs taken as recently as the 20th June 2012 can be viewed on the Daily Mail website here.

The vast salvage operation to refloat and tow away the vessel has now commenced. Due to the 114,000 ton weight of the vessel, it is anticipated that the operation will go on for 12 months at an estimated cost of €240,000,000. Comments (0)
